“You are not fat. You have fat. You also have fingernails, but you are not fingernails.”

This quote pops up a lot in weight loss blogs – and it’s an interesting thought. You could certainly argue (at a push) that excess fingernails could be just as much of a health hazard as excess fat (unable to feed or wash yourself, risk of injury, and so on).

Ultimately, when it comes to building a healthy relationship with your body: the best approach is always one that is grounded in a genuine desire to feel better and happier, rather than one that comes from a place of self-loathing. Language can help with that: constantly calling yourself fat is only going to cause more pain, stress and self limiting beliefs.

Our FAB weight loss program is about looking and feeling great, through education and understanding. It’s not about punishing or hating yourself, it’s about knowing what fuel your body needs to run effectively – basically, the equivalent of learning how to trim your fingernails rather than just sitting there hating them and/or trying to file them into oblivion. If you’d like to find out more, send us a message or head into the pharmacy for a chat.
